Overview

Take a day trip from the city of Montevideo to Colonia del Sacramento. In this 9-hour guided tour, enjoy a golden opportunity to discover this citadel. In 1995, Colonia was listed as a Cultural Heritage site by UNESCO for it's unique historic center, which harbors vestiges of the first Portuguese colony in the Rio de la Plata in 1680, as well as a rich Spanish heritage of the following centuries. This tour is great for history lovers as you stroll through the gate and amidst the centuries-old village and listen to your guide's commentary. A wonderful day trip

Excellent tour. Bus pick up at hotel on time. Guide spoke three languages, very personable and knowledgable. Colonia del Sacramento is a beautiful old town and it is very well preserved with lots of restaurants, cafes, shops etc. Reasonable prices, nice people, a wonderful day trip.
Enjoyable tour in Uruguay

It was an exciting experience of going to Colonia del Sacramento for a day visit. The 2-hour ride on a comfortable couch was not tiring at all. The guide and the coach driver were friendly and highly professional. The place was wonderful, I highly recommend to everyone to visit.
A long day

Colonia is probably worth visiting but whether this particular tour is the best method is a moot point.
The commentary was in at least three languages and seemingly interminable, delivered in a monotone. One had to listen hard to notice the change in language, I would guess that there was at least an hour of speech in the two and a bit hour journey where such interesting gems as this or that factory employed 150 people and had Italian machinery which was replaced by American plant were imparted.
If you are interested in seeing a collection of key rings, pencils and ash trays then a visit to the Arenas farm is a must, otherwise.....
Not really a must see

The Tour was OK but unfortunately.not more. The Guide did a really good Job, so i feel a bit sorry to write that but the bus was completely full, the drive was really Long (2,5 hours one way) and then you stand in the middle of a touristic Hotspot, with more or kess 2 Highlights. If you intend to go to Buenos Aires by boat and you stop over there for 2 or 3 hours that's all fine but If you sit 5 hours in a bus you could do other things that are cheaper and more interesting.
Lacks Guiding in Colonia

I feel like there could have been a little more of a "guided tour" upon arriving in Colonia. It's a pretty small area and we were given three hours to roam around on our own. I pretty much walked around in circles for the full three hours. I am sure I probably missed some interesting spots, but without a guide it's things that I am not aware of.
If you like exploring on your own or perhaps you're more of a shopper or want to spend an afternoon at a restaurant, cafe or bar, perhaps the three hours of free time in the neighborhood is more suitable for you.
